The Enphase IQ7X Micro Inverter is an inverter that is placed on the back of individual solar panels. As opposed to normal inverters where an entire string of modules is attached. In this way one achieves optimum efficiency, maximum reliability and extreme safety and is ready for the future. Note: The IQ7X can only be used with 96-cell modules.
Optimal efficiency
Classical PV systems will only generate energy when the sun has a higher solar position. Enphase installations operate immediately as soon as the sun rises. Another disadvantage of a classical system is that the entire string is as strong as its weakest link. When one panel is obstructed by shade, for example, it will affect the entire string in which that solar panel is located. Because microinverters operate at the module level, this will not be a problem. All other panels will still perform at their maximum.
Maximum reliability
In a PV system with string inverters, if one solar panel fails due to a defect or malfunction, the entire string will yield nothing. With Enphase IQ7X Micro Inverters, this is not the case. All other panels will remain active and still provide optimal energy. Another big plus of a microinverter is that there are no moving parts. For example, regular inverters often have active cooling or other components that would need to be replaced over time. With microinverters, this is not the case. These have up to 70% fewer parts than a string inverter. In case a micro inverter fails within the 25-year warranty period, it will be replaced free of charge.
Extreme safety
With the Enphase system, there is safe AC power directly connected to the RCD. With a string inverter, this mainly involves high voltages of direct current. Should a fault occur, the ground fault circuit breaker will stop the power supply. With classical systems, this does not happen, so there is more risk of, for example, arcs of flame. Other advantages include the fact that an Enphase installation has a built-in detection system that immediately detects defects in wiring and microinverters do not produce radiation.
Ready for the future
Expansion of the number of panels is possible without difficulty. Furthermore, the system is prepared for so-called smart appliances, such as smart thermostats, for example. This is made possible in part by the presence of a microchip in an Enphase IQ7X Micro Inverter.
